Identify the actual wallcovering before planning preparation
For enquiries about preparing and finishing plasterboard surfaces in Wiesbaden and the surrounding area, HandMen provides online marketing and refers enquiries to independent contractors. Name the desired wallpaper and affected surfaces in the initial enquiry. The executing contractor can then assess what work is actually required.
Record the manufacturer, product, texture, colour and any subsequent coating. Will the wallpaper itself be the finished appearance or provide a base for painting? A reference photograph explains the design intention but replaces neither product information nor confirmation for your existing wall.
This guide organises the scope discussion for interior surfaces. It specifies no universal combination of board, filling, primer and adhesive. Describe special use or moisture exposure separately; suitability of a wallcovering does not automatically establish suitability of the remaining wall assembly.
Distinguish new boards from previously decorated surfaces
State whether the surface is newly boarded, already painted or previously wallpapered. Gather known board, filler and coating information. Where the assembly is unknown, record the missing information as an outstanding question rather than filling it in from a photograph.
For the Variovlies V 180 PRO example, ERFURT requires a dry, sound, clean, sufficiently smooth and evenly absorbent substrate. Whether your surface meets those conditions needs an on-site assessment. A white wall or the description ‘newly filled’ does not answer that question.
Record visible cracks, loose layers, damaged board facing and known moisture events. Have outstanding findings and preparation assessed before covering the surface. The enquiry is not a request to test-sand or strip unknown layers; agree the next steps for unclear existing conditions with the responsible contractor.
Record appearance, lighting and junctions in one surface worksheet
Give each surface an identifier such as W1 for the living-room wall. Record the intended appearance, windows and planned lighting. For particular visual requirements, agree a sample area with the actual finish and document which view will serve as the reference.
The BV Gips index lists Q1–Q4 finish levels separately from preparation for subsequent coverings. Specify both filling quality and subsequent preparation in the commission. A broad label such as ‘ready for wallpaper’ leaves the product, surface treatment and responsibilities unresolved.
| Topic | Collect for the enquiry | Have the responsible contractor confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Surface and geometry | Room sketch, provisional dimensions and surface identifier | Affected surfaces, scope boundaries and definitive survey |
| Known layers | New board, old wallpaper, paint and available records | Assessed existing conditions and necessary preparation |
| Chosen wallpaper | Manufacturer, product, sample and intended final coating | Suitability of the actual combination and product information |
| Appearance and lighting | Intended texture, colour and lighting | Agreed appearance target and a sample area where needed |
| Junctions and access | Mark corners, reveals, skirting, joints and access points | Appropriate details and continuing access requirements |
| Use and future renovation | Everyday use and intended later changes | Suitable assembly, care information and future covering replacement |
Have primer and adhesive selected for the actual combination
Knauf’s installation-wall guide describes wallpaper primer on dry, filled surfaces. Rigips explains that priming balances absorption between board facing and filled areas. These notes do not approve swapping products without assessment or combining several preparations arbitrarily.
ERFURT’s FAQ stresses that adhesives must suit the substrate. Have the contractor reconcile the chosen wallpaper’s requirements with the existing layers. Record exact product names, necessary preparation and the contractor who assesses and executes this combination.
Also ask about future wallpaper replacement: what preparation is intended, and which records will be retained? A claim for a release primer or a particular product must not become a guarantee for every existing board facing. Inform the following contractor about primers already applied before their appointment.
Confirm readiness and the sequence of work explicitly
Rigips requires filler to be fully dry before further surface treatment. Have the executing contractor confirm the condition and next stage. ‘Drywall complete’ is too vague for scheduling when further work, cleaning or preparation remains outstanding.
Agree who checks room conditions and reports changes. Further wet work, new damage or late product deliveries belong in coordination with the responsible contractors. Do not turn a general online recommendation into a fixed deadline for wallpapering or overpainting.
Include furniture, clear working space, protection of floors and belongings, and return of the room to use. If it must remain occupied, agree access and permitted use directly with the executing contractors. HandMen does not confirm readiness for execution or provide technical approvals.
Resolve joints, access and required functions before the finish
Mark junctions with ceilings, floors, frames and neighbouring surfaces. Who decides where the wallcovering ends? Coordinate necessary joints and maintenance openings with the contractor responsible for the construction rather than treating them solely according to the desired continuous appearance.
Rigips distinguishes a material’s reaction to fire from a construction’s fire resistance. A wallpaper product property therefore does not confirm a required function of your complete wall. Identify particular requirements and have the covering’s suitability for the actual assembly assessed.
Record changes to sockets, lighting and covers as separate tasks. Who performs necessary work, and when must surfaces remain accessible? An agreed appearance is not an instruction to intervene in installations. Future furniture fixings also remain a separate assessment from the wallpapering commission.
Agree the handover with a responsibility worksheet
Add a named contractor, contact and agreed timing to each row. A row without a responsible party remains an outstanding item in the quote. The table coordinates work; it is not technical evidence and does not replace an agreed acceptance procedure.
At handover, document actual products, completed work and unresolved findings. If wallpaper or finish changes, have the consequences for preparation, quote and sequence reassessed. Retain product information and agreed care instructions together with the commissioned scope.
| Task | Agree responsibility directly | Record the outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Assess existing conditions | Who assesses layers, visible findings and outstanding questions? | Assessed substrate and necessary preparation |
| Specify the wallcovering | Who confirms product, purpose and final coating? | Exact product names and agreed scope |
| Produce the filled surface | Who provides the agreed finish quality and further work? | Surface scope, appearance target and handover condition |
| Select primer and adhesive | Who assesses and applies the actual combination? | Products, preparation and prerequisites for the next stage |
| Resolve junctions and access | Who confirms joints, edges, access points and installation tasks? | Coordinated details and other responsible contractors |
| Confirm the next appointment | Who assesses readiness and reports changes? | Confirmed next stage and outstanding prerequisites |
| Review wallpapering and finish | Who executes the work and discusses the agreed appearance? | Completed surfaces and traceable outstanding items |
| Hand over records | Who supplies product data and future renovation information? | Documents, care instructions and responsible contacts |
Confirm the executing contractor and actual trade scope
IHK Frankfurt describes system-based acoustic and dry construction separately from essential activities of Annex A crafts. This does not give blanket authorisation for all subsequent finishing. Annex A includes Maler und Lackierer and Raumausstatter. Where unclear, confirm the actual commercial activity and required authorisation with the responsible chamber.
A small surface, the description ‘simple work’ or Kleinunternehmer tax status does not replace that clarification. Separate assembly, repair, full-surface preparation, wallpapering and painting in the quote. This guide confirms neither an individual contractor’s authorisation nor a general exemption from registration requirements.
For an enquiry in Wiesbaden and the surrounding area, begin with the location, photographs, surface worksheet and chosen wallpaper. HandMen names the specific independent partner and obtains separate consent before transferring personal data. You agree the visit, survey, technical assessment, design, quote, contract, execution, invoicing and payment directly with that contractor. HandMen handles marketing and enquiry referral, not execution, site supervision or technical approval.
