Describe what the wall lining needs to achieve
For planned non-load-bearing plasterboard wall lining in Wiesbaden and the surrounding area, HandMen provides online marketing and refers enquiries to independent contractors. Identify the wall, the room and the intended finished result. Is the aim to line an existing surface, accommodate services or provide a wall where a cabinet will later hang?
Here, Trockenputz means plasterboard attached directly to an existing wall using the selected system’s bonding material. Knauf distinguishes this principle without framing from other linings. Its suitability for a particular wall depends on assessment of the existing construction. A partition creates a new room boundary; framed lining has a different supporting arrangement.
Give each surface an identifier, such as W1 in the study. Add photographs, a room sketch and known restrictions. Request a quote for the assessed objective and necessary preparation. The term bonded lining alone establishes neither a cost advantage nor the finished thickness or a completion date.
Distinguish existing layers from an assessed suitable substrate
List known layers: masonry or concrete, existing plaster, paint, wallpaper and previous repairs. Mark areas with loose finishes or an unknown build-up. This information supports a site visit; a photograph or an apparently firm surface does not replace the appointed contractor’s substrate assessment.
Knauf makes the bonding method dependent on the substrate. Rigips’ dry-lining FAQ identifies existing plaster and paint as unsuitable substrates. That manufacturer-specific statement does not approve other systems. Ask for confirmation of the proposed construction, its exact system designation and the substrate preparation it requires.
Ask which layers may remain, which require professional treatment and who will carry out that work. Is further investigation necessary? A general quote item for primer does not answer these questions. If the aim also includes insulating an external wall from inside, treat this as a separate building-physics design task with an appropriate system selection.
Resolve damp, damage and unknown old materials before covering
Describe visible stains, odours, cracks and previous water damage, including their location and timeline. The German Environment Agency notes that mould damage may be concealed. Have observations and causes assessed before a new lining hides them. Another board does not confirm that the existing wall is dry or that the cause has been resolved.
Collect available information about the building’s age, alterations and material investigations. BG BAU treats building information as an important part of preparation where asbestos may be present. Before anyone disturbs unknown old layers, agree who will assess the need for clarification and arrange suitable investigations if necessary.
Separate your observations from confirmed findings in the enquiry. For example, describe a stain below the window since last winter rather than giving your own diagnosis. Agree who decides whether work can continue if further damage becomes visible during preparation. Include this decision point when coordinating dates.
Use the finished wall position and complete build-up for dimensions
Board thickness alone does not establish where the finished wall will stand. Have the existing wall’s deviations, proposed system construction and surface finish considered together. The appointed contractor confirms the measurements used for execution and ordering. Use the same agreed reference for furniture and adjoining components.
Review the full length of the wall: door frames, window reveals, sills, radiators, skirting and existing fitted furniture. Even a modest shift in the surface can create additional junction work. Record unresolved points before ordering furniture or matching covers; a rough room sketch is not a confirmed ordering survey.
| Area | Prepare for the enquiry | Have the responsible contractor confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Existing reference | Wall identifier, room sketch and known layers | Survey and an unambiguous finished-wall reference |
| Unevenness | Mark visible projections, recesses and repairs | Geometry and suitability of the selected system |
| Complete build-up | Describe the intended finished surface and subsequent finish | Full construction including preparation and final finish |
| Windows and doors | Photograph reveals, frames, sills and adjoining surfaces | Finished junctions, available dimensions and necessary alterations |
| Services and fittings | Mark known installations and planned objects | Interfaces, fixing concept and required access |
| Floor and furniture | Record floor level, skirting and existing furniture | Usable space and junctions with finished components |
Assign responsibility for services, sockets and future loads
Mark known service routes, sockets, switches and necessary maintenance points. Ask which installations need attention before lining and who determines their position at the finished surface. Agree checks and handovers with the responsible contractors. Adding a wall lining does not authorise you to move electrical installations yourself.
List cabinets, shelves, screens or grab rails with their intended position, use and weight including contents. Have the complete load path and suitable fixing areas assessed. A board product name or bonding method does not establish how a heavy object can be connected safely to the existing construction.
Where installations need continued access, describe the future maintenance task and the component to be reached. Coordinate reachability, a suitable opening and documentation together. Request a clear record of confirmed areas, rather than later guessing concealed service routes or fixing positions from a photograph.
Agree junctions, the surface target and handover condition
Mark transitions to the ceiling, floor, adjoining walls and openings. The German Gypsum Industry Association lists separate publications on joints, surface quality and pretreatment. Have the project’s junction design and intended appearance specified. An agreed filling standard does not replace a suitable junction or planning for a required protective function.
Rigips describes suitable dry substrates and coordinated site conditions as prerequisites. Agree who will confirm readiness to start, continue and hand over, based on the actual condition. Ask about conditions for subsequent work. The term dry lining does not establish a universal date for joint finishing, coating or unrestricted room use.
Describe the eventual surface and lighting: wallpaper, paint or another agreed finish. Assign preparation, outstanding corrections and the next contractor’s responsibilities. In a bathroom or kitchen, the intended use needs a separate assessment of substrate and any necessary waterproofing; a living-room example does not establish suitability there.
Record decisions and checks before the wall is covered
Add specific contractors, contacts, dates and outstanding decisions to the worksheet. Agree necessary checks while the affected areas remain accessible. Photographs support documentation; they do not replace a substrate inspection, technical assessment or contractually agreed acceptance of the work.
Also record how new findings and changes will be included in the quote and schedule. Who confirms additional preparation, and when will following contractors receive updated dimensions? This keeps a changed wall position traceable before it leads to an unsuitable frame, socket position or furniture order.
| Topic | Assign responsibility | Record the result or document |
|---|---|---|
| Existing wall and old layers | Who assesses the substrate and necessary investigations? | Findings, open questions and further clarification |
| System and preparation | Who selects the construction and performs preparatory work? | System designation, scope and confirmed starting condition |
| Dimensions and junctions | Who confirms the finished wall position and adjoining details? | Survey, junction plan and ordering basis |
| Installations | Who works on and checks services, sockets and access? | Location plan, interfaces and inspection points |
| Loads and fixings | Who assesses objects and their complete load path? | Planned use and suitable fixing areas |
| Site conditions | Who confirms readiness for the next step? | Condition, restrictions and coordinated dates |
| Surface and subsequent work | Who handles joints, preparation and coating? | Surface target, corrections and handover condition |
| Documentation and changes | Who records concealed areas and new findings? | Plans, records, changes and responsible contacts |
Commission the actual scope directly with the provider
IHK Frankfurt distinguishes system-based acoustic and dry construction using prefabricated components from essential activities of Annex A crafts. This is not blanket authorisation for all preparatory and subsequent work. Clarify the actual scope, required qualification and responsibility for each additional service.
Electrical contractors and painters and decorators appear in Annex A of the German Crafts Code. A small painted area or Kleinunternehmer tax status does not create a general exemption. Have electrical work, general painting and other affected trades assessed and quoted by appropriately authorised contractors. A company’s tax treatment does not replace required craft authorisation.
For your enquiry in Wiesbaden and the surrounding area, provide a wall identifier, photographs, known layers, intended use, provisional dimensions and open questions. HandMen names the specific independent partner and obtains separate consent before transferring personal data. You agree the site visit, survey, technical assessment, design, quote, contract, work, invoicing and payment directly with that provider. HandMen handles marketing and enquiry referral, not construction, site supervision or technical approval.
